Kidz Bikez, Chain Ring Art, and Volunteering!!!!!

So we’ve re-opened our doors at a new location and want to get the ball rolling. We have a couple kids bike that need good homes. If you know anyone who is 11 yrs old or younger and its their birthday. Clear up space for us by taking one for FREE!!!. Offer good only for ages <11
Some bike artists in Tuscon ,AZ want a lot of chain rings for who knows what reason. If you have some gnarled teeth (or any busted parts/tires/etc.) bring um' down so we can free up space in the landfills.
The bike cooperative is run by volunteers and we want more people to help one-on-one with visitors, strip down bikes, build bikes, and other various tasks of running a community bike shop. If saving defenseless bicycles from the mounds of post-consumerist waste, transforming "trash" into usable bikes/art/anything, and spreading bicycle wizard knowledge sounds interesting then you should click on the volunteer tab…or not.

Fall Update

Due to cold weather the cooperative will only be open two days a week. We’ve switched Monday to Tuesday for open hours and Thursday is now our staff only work hours (so we can prepare for super rad activities next year). Stay warm everybody and hope to see you around the shop.

Also, someone wrote a book about the history of Richmond cycling. The image below will take you to the kickstarter for printing. It’s on our wish list.

Rag and Bones at the Zinefest!

Hey Richmond! The Rag and Bones Co-op will be participating in the Richmond Zine Fest this year! The Zine Fest is taking place October 6th at the Gay Community Center of Richmond, 1407 Sherwood Ave., from 11 AM – 6 PM.
We will be providing FREE bicycle repair, so bring your wheels and we’ll teach you how to fix ‘em. We’ll have information about the shop as well as zines for kids, free helmets and as always, knowledge to share! Bring some donations to help keep the co-op alive. See you there!

That’s right everyone, we’re finally having our first BIKE IN MOVIE!

If you haven’t seen flyers around here is all the info. We’ll be meeting at the compass for a group ride to the shop at 7:30 and the movie starts at 8. We’ll have popcorn and sodas available, and bring something to sit on if you can.

As always, email us with questions at RagandBonesRVA@gmail.com!

See you there!

Progress Report – 7/26

Things are rolling along smoothly and the space just keeps getting better!

Lately, donations have been pouring in from awesome people around the community, and we are so thankful! Since it is now the middle of summer, staffing has been a little low, but we plan to have a lot of bikes coming off the lot soon. We have been successfully open 3 days a week for months now and many people have benefited from free use of the tools, affordable bicycles / parts, and our collection of repair manuals and other literature.

The space has become a reflection of the people who use it, giving life to an otherwise dull and industrial area. We have had a few cook-outs and participated in a couple of races, gathering people from all parts of the community in fun ways. The positive feedback we receive is overwhelmingly helpful, giving us motivation to continue working harder and more efficiently to provide such a valuable resource to those in need. Our hope is that, with the support of the community and the hard work of our staff / volunteers, this project will flourish for years to come.

     So, thank you…

Thank you all so much for seeing this thing through to reality, welcome to the shop!
